nothing seems to work

Postby Jim » Wed Mar 18, 2009 4:22 am

I've installed EasySMF and tried to do a few things, but so far nothing seems to do anything.

* I tried using "Load from FTP". It prompts me for information, but which I press connect, all that happens is that the connect button gets greyed out. With Netstat in a command window or the syslogd logs on the host, I can see that an FTP session was established, but there is no attempt to transfer data.

* I copied some data using FTP myself and tried "Load from file". If fills out a "last record time" of "0001-01-01 00:00:00" and just sits there. If I try to cancel, I get a pop-up requesting confirmation, but the window won't go away until I click on the "X".

Well, since I can't load any data, I have no idea what the program might do if it actually loaded any.

Hi Jim,

I apologize for not replying earlier, I missed your message in the moderation queue.

If you select File->View FTP Log from the menu, you should be able to see details of the FTP session. It would be interesting to know what the last thing appearing there was. Do you see a list of datasets at all? Does it make a difference if you enable/disable passive mode?

Hanging while loading datasets is unusual, I will have to have a think about what is happening there and see whether I can figure out where it might hang, and what diagnostics are possible. If the FTP problem is after you select a file to load, they could be the same problem - but from your description, it doesn't sound like that is the case.
