interval reporting question

Postby DebbieMitchell » Wed Jul 15, 2009 2:06 am

I'm trying to analyze why a particular jobstep periodically runs for an excessive amount of time. I suspect there's another job running against it that is having an impact. I'd like to be able to view all active jobs in a particular interval but can't figure out how to get that info. The start/end selections aren't granular enough since I can't directly input the time range (i.e. 7/6/2009 22:23 to 7/7/2009 00:15). Is there some other way you can suggest I can see all jobs running during this time?

Thanks for your help.

You should be able to enter the time range in the Start and End fields. One tip is that the Start field controls the start time and the End field basically controls the duration. When you change the Start time, the End time also changes to keep the same interval length. This means that the Start time can be used to change the day etc. and the End time goes along with it. When you change the End time the Start time is unchanged.

So you should be able to change the start time to 7/6/2009 22:23, then change the end time to 7/7/2009 00:15. If that doesn't work, there is some sort of problem there.

Alternatively, if you click on the problem job in the Job Completions report, it will set the interval to the start and end time of that job. You can then click on to other reports and the interval will be maintained. However this also sets the Jobname, so you will need to clear that field to see the other jobs.

The report you probably want is Job Status During Interval. This reads all the different type 30 subtypes to report on what was running during that interval, and you can sort on the various consumption columns. Obviously it works best if you have all the type 30 subtypes, so it can work out the job status (started, ended, running or complete - complete meaning it started and ended during the selected time range) and deltas for the consumption figures.

From the Job Status During Interval you can also click through and see the Job Profile report, which charts consumption over time, as far as can be determined from the type 30s.
