Which SMF records?

Postby locjeuh » Mon Feb 09, 2009 9:49 pm

Hi,

downloading the SMF data to PC is proving to be tedious due to its size. Can you specify which SMF records are used for reporting, so I can filter out those that I don't need from the host, BEFORE I start downloading?

Thanks!

EasySMF currently uses information from record types:

0 - IPL
2 - Dump Header
3 - Dump trailer
7 - Data Lost
30 - Job Accounting
70 - Processor Activity
72 - Workload Activity
74 - RMF Activity of Several Resources

Dataset related reports:

14 - Input dataset activity
15 - Output dataset activity
17 - Dataset scratch
18 - Dataset rename
42 - DFSMS statistics
60 - VVDS update
61 - ICF define
62 - VSAM open
64 - VSAM Status
65 - ICF delete
66 - ICF alter

It might be worthwhile keeping the other RMF 7x records a well because I expect to add reports for those, and you might want to go back and look at the old data.

If you have a local server with FTP access, you might find it better to use a batch job to transfer to that, then load from the file. You need to transfer the SMF records with the RDW intact, I think the command is:
LOCSITE RDW
and of course use binary transfer mode:
BIN
