Suggestions (The return)

Postby Thierry Deleris » Thu Feb 12, 2009 12:44 am

Hello,

Some "technical" suggestions :

- It will be very intersting if we could copy the generated graphics, into a text editor like Word for example.

- As the EasySMF SMF file "First-load" treatment could be very long, I think that it could be a good idea to give a "DOS EXE" program that could be run from VB script or DOS on Windows to automate some redundant actions. For example :

1 - Batch SMF extraction on all LPARs at a specific time for the previous day
2 - Batch FTP transfer of the previous files on a Windows server
3 - Automatic "Fist-load" on EasyFTP at file reception with this "DOS" program.

Best Regards,

Thierry

Hi Thierry,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I will see if I can make an easy way to copy charts to the clipboard so they can be pasted into other programs.

A command line version to allow scheduled tasks is also a good idea. I will add it to the list.

Regards

Hello,

I'd forget the most important thing : Congratulations for your idea and the mean you realize it !

Secondly, about the copy option : Another idea is the possibilty to automate all the copy needed to generate a daily report, in the form of GIF or JPG pictures for example. These pictures could be in a second time used in a Word document or from a Web based Intranet application.

Thirdly, about DASD activity : A graph to represent the evolution of the Response Time decomposition (IOSQ, Disc, ...) on a time period will be very intersting.

Thanks!

If you select RMF Device Activity: DASD Activity and then click through on a device you see a chart showing a response time breakdown - is that what you mean, or are you looking for something slightly different?

Hello,

These are the good chart but is it possible to have the same ones by Storage Group or by LPAR and not only by Device name ?

I am not sure how you would meaningfully show an IOSQ, connect time etc. breakdown combined for more than one device. For example, if you have one device with 1ms connect, 5ms IOSQ and 20 IO/s and another with 2ms connect, 1ms IOSQ and 200 IO/s can you get any meaningful information about connect or IOSQ by combining them?

Average response time e.g. for storage group makes sense, I'm just not sure that it makes sense to aggregate the individual components across different devices. Information for a single device across different LPARs might also be useful.

Can you tell me what question you are trying to answer?
