System CPU Busy by Service Class and System CPU Busy by Report Class

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

These reports chart the MVS CPU busy value, and show the relative contributions of each service or report class.

System CPU Busy by Report Class will also show the quantity of work without a report class assigned, by comparing the service class and report class totals.

The difference between this report and the CPU Service by Service/Report Class report is that the data in this report is scaled according to CPU busy, while CPU Service by Service/Report Class shows the value in service units.

The values in this report will change if the amount of CPU power available changes (e.g. due to changes to LPAR weight or the number of CPUs online), even if the actual consumption of the service/report class does not change. The CPU Service by Service/Report Class report uses service units, which remain relatively constant when the available CPU power changes.

This report can show you which classes were using the CPU at a particular time, and with filtering you can isolate or remove particular classes. It is not so useful for comparing different times.

CPU Service by Service/Report Class allows you to compare the consumption at different times to see how it has changed.
